Mudding & Taping

Not much to write today, but boy is this house finally coming together. Enjoy the photos of the mudding and taping stage!

Our main living space looking out at Kenwood Parkway.

Our open staircase that looks quite modern now. Will eventually have big sheets of glass in between the 2 pillars.

Our front door looking into an expanded foyer.

The garage all sheet rocked and our toilets and sinks sitting in the center of the garage.

Living room with a view of the kitchen.

Sheetrock is Rocking!

Our living room!
The front of our house and our living room where our 3 juliet balconies are.
Another view of the living room.

Well after only 1 day of sheetrocking I have to say they have covered a lot of ground or should I say covered a lot of walls and ceilings. It is amazing all the layers that go into a house and all the little details that are under these heavy white sheets. Now that the sheetrocking is up you start to really see all the thoughtful details that Bryce was so particular about along the way. You notice those can lights, the outlets and even the light switches that were so consciously placed. Underneath all this sheetrock was an a lot of orchestrating, and Bryce was definitely the conductor. So as the last layer goes up on the walls it makes you think about all the people that have helped us to get to this point. Kudos to all the hands that have helped build this house....it is definitely a labor of love and layers!

Looking Back...

I think the one thing that has been really fun about doing this blog is that you are able to really see the progress of this project. You can reflect back on how far we have come! Here are a few pictures that capture our journey.

Dirty covered windows and mildew crumbling walls once filled the corner of our living room!

Now it is filled with gorgeous light!

The kitchen after we removed the fridge, but before we started on demo. I never imagined a home could be this grimey & dirty.

After tuck pointing the brick walls....filling in the holes in the wall....framing it out...new windows...new electrical/plumbing and now insulation, Ta Da you have this!

Rockin' and Rollin' with Sheetrock!

How many sheets of sheetrock does it take to sheetrock 747? Well today 250 sheets of sheetrock were delivered to our house. We are hoping that is the right number. As you can see from the big boom truck we had to bring it in through the bedroom windows and our juliet balconies. The process took a total of 4 hours and 4 guys (Bryce, Joe & the 2 delivery guys). It was quite the process just to get it all in, now comes the dusty part. Monday is when the sheetrock will start to go up!

So Quiet!

After 5 days of spraying foam the house is fully insulated. I have to tell you I am very impressed with this spray foam insulation. It is something we decided to do because of the age of our home and energy efficiency. The major difference with spray foam is that it is structural and that was really important to us. Not only does everything feel really solid, it is also amazingly quiet! Everyday when I come to see the progress of the day it feels more and more like a home. We are hoping to move in early September, and now that feels like right around the corner. The next step is sheetrock. They measured yesterday and will deliver the sheetrock later this week.

Inspiration!!

Well the form came down from the fireplace and I am in love with it! It turned out better than I thought it would. It is exactly what I wanted... simple, clean, modern and classic. I thought I should include the inspiration that I was keying into. This fireplace just spoke to me one day out of Veranda magazine while standing in line at the grocery store. I can't wait to take down the plastic that is protecting it and let it really shine.

Fireplace Poured

A productive week! This week we got the inspection done for our electrical and passed. Thanks Warren & Clinton! We also finally have running water and we also got our fireplace poured. Here are a few shots of the fireplace with the form up. Can't wait to see how it looks when we take it off. I hope it looks just like my Veranda inspiration.
